Minister's Message August 2025
August often brings with it a different pace—a chance to enjoy long evenings, time with family and friends, maybe a holiday or two—or at least a bit more ice cream! Church life often slows just a little too, as we make space for rest, sabbath, and renewal. Whether you're staying home or heading away, we hope this season brings moments of joy, peace, and gentle laughter. But August is also a time of transition. Last month, we said farewell to Revd Rose Westwood, giving thanks for her ministry as our Superintendent and sending her on her way with love and blessing. Next month, we look forward to welcoming Revd Kevin Highfield as he begins his new role among us. Please keep him and the wider Circuit team in your prayers as we enter this new chapter together. in the garden afterwards. It’s a chance to be church together in a different way, and we’d love to see you there. Thank you to everyone who supported me when I was off with laryngitis—it was a very quiet week in the manse! Sadly, this means we have had to re arrange the confirmation and membership service for four of our regular church attendees. This will now take place on 24th August. Please do pray for them as they prepare. Whatever August holds for you—sunshine or showers, travelling or staying put—may you know the presence of God in it all.
Histon Methodist Charity 2025–26 : This year, we will be supporting Concrete Rose.
Concrete Rose is a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a Christian ethos which aims to deliver, and equip others to provide, first-class care and support for the most vulnerable young people across the UK. They work alongside, and support, those of all faiths (and none), all ethnicities, all genders and all sexualities. Many young people need a safe place to call home. Through their network of hosts they provide supported lodgings arrangements for those aged 16–23 giving them the security they need to build a brighter future. For more information, please see their website at https://concreterose.co.uk
We’d also love to invite you to a special Section All-Age Worship Service on Sunday 10th August, . I’ll be returning fresh (or perhaps slightly muddy!) from Guide Camp to lead this service, which will be all about tents and shelters. There’ll even be a den-building competition during the service—so bring your children, grandchildren, and your very best den-building blankets! Our Open Manse was scheduled for 10th August but we’ve had to change the date: it will now be a week later on the 17th. Whether you’re from Castle Street, Histon, or further afield, come for a relaxed afternoon of tea, cake, and conversation.
With every blessing, Rev Jenny
