Minister's Newsletter July 2025
The sun is (sometimes!) shining, gardens are bursting into colour, and the pace of life begins to shift as we enter the summer season. For many, July brings a sense of pause—school terms wind down, university terms come to a close, and holidays begin to appear on the horizon. It’s a time to breathe a little deeper, to take joy in God’s creation, and to reconnect with the simple gifts of rest, sunshine, and community. This summer, we have much to celebrate in the life of our churches. In June, we marked two very special moments of confirmation—Tina at Histon and Charles at Castle Street. It was a joy and privilege to witness Tina and Charles’ commitments of faith, and to stand alongside them as a community, promising our prayers and support. These are signs of God at work among us, and we give thanks for all that is growing and being nurtured in our churches. Looking ahead, we’d love to invite you to a special summer gathering on Sunday 10th August: Paul and I will be opening up the manse between 2pm and 5pm for a relaxed afternoon of tea, cake, and garden conversation—a chance to catch up, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate the summer together. To make a day of it, the Castle Street Lunch Club will meet after the morning service and head to Histon for lunch, followed by the manse open house (see the separate notice for details). Histon folk, you’re warmly welcome to come along after your own service — just let Denise know if you'd like to join in for lunch so we can make sure there’s enough for everyone. It promises to be a joyful ‘church day out’ and we’d love to see as many of you as possible. And as summer unfolds, why not use this season to try something new in your walk with God? Take your prayers outside, sit in the quiet of a garden or park, read a Psalm under the sky, or try a different rhythm of devotion. Rest is holy—and so is play. God often meets us in unexpected places when we step outside our routines. So take this summer as an invitation: to rest, to wonder, and to discover anew the God who walks with us in every season.
With every blessing,
Rev Jenny
